I’m not a catastrophist, but this is some horrible, horrible news for incarcerated individuals and this has to deal with Securus which as you may now is the phone provider for some of the jail facilities.

There was an article in December 2025 from MIT that I just got my hands on that talked about Securus the phone provider using AI technology to flag conversations that talk about:

  • criminal conduct
  • present criminal conduct
  • I guess planning for criminal conduct
  • and also past criminal conduct

And AI is somehow reducing summaries or flagging the relevant calls for further review.

The article wasn’t specific enough as to which facilities or how this is being done or where this information goes to, but the field of reviewing jail calls is greatly changing.

It was one thing if you had a prosecutor or an intern with headphones on going through the jail calls and catching whatever they catch.

And the craziest thing about the whole system (and I felt really violated for the clients) is that the client is paying for the call!!

The inmate is paying for the call and there’s no expectation of privacy and now there’s this AI mining that is taking place.

It’s some scary stuff and I do hope we get more information as to how this is working and what facilities are impacted, but you literally have no expectation or privacy on any of the communications that you have outside world, with the exception of your attorney.
